Some fairly big changes afoot this fortnight. Every single tomato was fruit fly afflicted so in the compost they all went. I also got rid of the corn and cucumbers which means the vertical element is almost non-existent. Another flush of beans is still in its infancy.
The weather has been pretty kind from a growing perspective, no searing heat, but plenty of sun. Transplanting everything out in overcast conditions today was lovely, and then it followed up with 5mm of rain – perfect!
I’m trying to get a sneaky crop of spuds in too even though it isn’t supposed to be the season for it. There are always loads of self seeded plants and this year is no exception, so I’m going to try and replicate that example intentionally. Seed potatoes aren’t available at this time of year, but I’ve got loads of random spuds all over the garden that I’ve scrounged. Hopefully they come good.
Not many of the seedlings I planted two weeks ago are thriving – no surprises there. The difference in quality of the later seedlings grown in half compost is pretty striking.
Hearing plenty of talk about a lack of pollination of pumpkins and zucchini’s and our garden is no different. In spring you could hear the bees before you saw them, now I’m struggling to see any even though there are plenty of flowers about.
Plenty of work to be done in the rest of the garden this next couple of weeks, I’m hoping the veggies can look after themselves. Until next time, happy growing!
