Seed sowing has gone up a notch again as I try to populate the rest of the garden with staples like Rocket and Parsley – no point in growing them taking up prime real estate in the veggie beds when they will thrive elsewhere.
The potatoes I planted two weeks ago have shot out of the ground, however the watermelon has been a disaster. Melons have grown but between bad management and poor planning I have destroyed most of them myself!
Beans and kohlrabi have been regular kitchen features and basil and eggplant are waiting to be processed en mass. Pesto and Baba Ganoush here we come.
Behind the scenes I’ve been learning a lot about soil life and working out how to tweak all my efforts towards a thriving underground ecosystem. I will be trying to work out how to communicate that at some point in the future. Most of the action is invisible to the naked eye, and I don’t have a microscope, but it does involve plenty of compost.
I’m also looking forward to welcoming one of my permaculture hero’s here on Friday – Nevin Sweeney. His Under the Choko Tree website is a gold mine of information on all things permaculture related, and a regular haunt of mine for realistic practical advice (https://www.underthechokotree.com/).
