I’ve been putting off transplanting and sowing seeds until I could get a couple of days of indirect sun – which hasn’t happened. We are harvesting loads of fruit including some stunning Santa Rosa plums – the difference between shop bought and home grown is obvious.
Keeping the water up becomes something of a chore when the weather is like this – it makes you wonder whether having all those pots is really worth it!! But on the plus side it gets you out there and paying attention to what is going on.
None of my carrots for the past three sowings have amounted to much. Between the sun and the snails they have struggled. I’m going to keep on trying just for experimentation purposes, but not expecting any good results until the weather turns at the end of summer.
It has been a real pleasure this last couple of months eating constantly out of the garden. We are still behind the eight ball with so much of the produce, it requires as much dedication to get out and harvest as it does to sow the seeds. Then you have to work out what to do with it all! Steep learning curves every step of the way, but with a bit of luck we’ll be on top of it soon.
I’ve thought more than once that we should just cut off going to the market and eat whatever is growing, but that is a lot easier said than done with teenagers!
