Peach Harvest

Millions of peaches. Well not quite, but a fair few, all off one tree. A great early Christmas pressie.

Love this time of the year – starting the summer with abundance of the best kind. Comes around quickly once the fruit has set and the nets are on.

We have two peach trees, a Flordagold and a Flordaprince which are both self pollinating, and for ages I had the tree labels on them. But now I don’t, and I can’t remember which is which. Either way they are both early fruiting varieties.

The video is about the most prolific one, which had 250 fruit on it after one and a half years. I took them all off so that the tree could concentrate on growing roots and branches for the first two years. After that I let it do it’s thing. It is now just over four years in the ground. This harvest was about 28kg.

The other tree spent the first two years of its life in the shade of a massive eucalypt in next doors garden. Now the eucalypt has gone it is a lot happier, but still not so productive. Maybe next year.

Enjoy the video.
